Session approved for Sarah Randolph to move an Allen Organ (which has headsets) to Hoffman Hall and allow her to teach organ students and allow them to use the Allen organ to practice FREE. Advanced students under Sarah’s supervision will be allowed to play our church pipe organ, too. This will help maintain the church organ.
Sarah had 6 large organs donated to her Lockport D91 school years ago – with the understanding she was to find a good home for them (if they still worked) and the school discontinued teaching organ. Sarah taught organ to her advanced students for years. Students who passed a certain level on the organ were allowed to play the million dollar Rialto Theatre’s Grand Barton Theatre pipe organ. This was possible thanks to the Partners in Education: JATOE (Joliet Area Theatre Organ Enthusiasts) organization Past President James Patak and current President Joel Martis and the Rialto Theatre. The Presidents would play a short concert for the students and families and then the students would play the Rialto organ. Another Rialto frequent performer for the students was Frank Pellico, organist for the Chicago Blackhawks. All of this was done FREE for the students.
Sarah retired from teaching music after 44 years and the new music teacher didn’t know how to teach organ. Sarah had 8 days to find homes for the 6 organs. She wanted the Allen, but her home isn’t large enough so she asked the church if they would allow her to move it to the church and teach organ FREE to people who wanted to learn.
The Herald News had two Rialto organ school articles waiting to be published and when they heard about the FREE organ lessons and our church’s generosity in allowing the Allen organ to be stored and used FREE they wanted to do a story on it. The Herald will be printing a story in the future about this.
If you or someone you know would like to learn to play organ or even just try it, email or call Sarah (randolphd91@yahoo.com or house 815-725-6833) to set up an appointment. No prior music experience is needed. Learning organ helps build and strengthen your brain dendrites! Sarah will check schedules and contact you with a date – all for FREE. The only pay she wants is for people to enjoy organ.
Advanced students will be allowed to privately play for family and friends – the million dollar Rialto pipe organ!
If you like the Rialto organ, you may join the JATOE organization which provides about 10 organ concerts a year – one Sunday a month (at 2 pm) all performed by organ professionals from around the 4 state area. JATOE Membership is $40 a year per family (you are welcome to bring guests with you FREE) or $15 a year for families with K-12 school aged children. JATOE organization helps support/maintain the million dollar Rialto Grand Barton Pipe Organ.
